The Best Deal

For LL in the UK

Your absence from tweeting hasn't gone unnoticed of course. I guess I could read all sorts of things into that, but at present I'm awaiting a wee report from two people in your home city that I have maintained contact with.

I could speculate that you have broken up with your man or that you have Covid, or that you have passed on. In the latter case, I don't expect any activity!

However, on the assumption that you are still with us, I will continue.

As you may have observed, I have managed to travel outside the States in nearly two years. Hawaii is overseas I guess but that doesn't count in my book. Here I am in Italy and have spent the last week with my gorgeous Chiara in Milan. At the time of writing this, I have moved onto Bergamo to see and stay with some Italian friends. My next stop will be Venice where I have a home of my own.

From there, at some point, I will travel south to Bologna and Florence. I have a little business in Rome and then I will relax in Sorrento and around before traveling to London, before returning home to New Hampshire. All of that will put some miles on my jet to add to those crossing the Atlantic.

There have been many women in my life since you LL and you were the only one to destroy my trust. Puts you at the bottom of a six hundred plus list in that respect, doesn't it. Back when we were together and before your deceit, I thought we were pretty good together. I guess after thirty three of marriage I was a bit out of practice with women other than my wife. Thank goodness I didn't let your deceit destroy my faith in women.

I think of you as a catalyst now. Someone who triggered me into looking at alternatives to you, giving me the idea to take up photography again and all that brought with it and leaving me free to travel the world. I always had a plan LL. Initially, you were to be part of it sharing life with me, but short-sightedness and your impulsive nature took precedence.

Looking back now, I'm glad you did what you did behind my back. It meant I wasn't beholden to you and was free to pursue a different life to the one I envisaged with you ... and yours. Here I am sixteen years later and there you are sixteen years later. Who had the best deal do you think? It was your choice, but the wrong choice.

I have a few more blogs for you to catch up on. You can get to them though the link on my Twitter page, in the header or click here:

Activities

 For LL in the UK

Seems you are lacking your inevitable posts of food and booze on your restricted travels LL. I wonder, does this mean you and he are finished, or that you have Covid or that you are no longer with us. Perhaps you have given up posting. Without those meals out and weekends over the border, there is very little to your life is there...maybe I should have added also that there is very little point to it either.

I have been busy here on the ranch and at my home about a mile away. Although I have staff there's still a fair bit to do. Trading horses, getting winter food organised, chatting to the farrier and other pleasurable matters..involving various females. On top of that, see how I brought that phrase in as a follow up the last sentence, there are not inconsiderable business matter to attend to. I have staff for those also.

I have been entertaining, cooking and turning out some of my signature dishes along with one of my greatest joys - writing. When it rains and it hasn't much, I sometimes retreat to my studio both for some photography and also to paint. I painted many years ago and have revived it with some success. My mother was an accomplished water-colorist.

I may go to  my home in Nantucket for a few days by the sea, next week. Although I could drive the roads are always busy between here and there because of Boston and it can take five hours to get there. However, if you have been paying attention, you will know I have a helicopter based here at the ranch (well away from the horses) and that takes just an hour and a half. A no-brainer really.

I guess you probably realise that I know far more about the family than just what you told me. Key words like Vevers, Eales,  and Devon, Pickup spring to mind, but there are many more all available and made available to me. You would be surprised how much the government knows about people.

I have a few more blogs for you to view and read, just to remind you that I could get along fine without you and also that I was getting along fine with you in tow as well. You should never have played away LL. You may not realise it with your limited mindset, but it ruined any prospects you had of the 'good life' that I enjoy.

Anyway check the link in my header on the tweeting place, or click through here:

Laughs

For LL in the UK

I laughed and laughed to myself LL after we parted.

The reasons?

The main one was the man you had acquired back in March 2005, his size and his stature. I knew you liked 'a man with a little flesh on his bones', but you took it to the extreme there. Another reason - the fact that after you left me in such a cold and dispassionate manner, when you returned my ring (but not the rest!) I decided to teach you a lesson about the way you treat people.

I 'played' with you LL, to make sure you learned something from your actions. As you know actions have consequences and I decided to lay some on for you. You knew virtually nothing about me or my background, just the stuff I decided to reveal. Consequently, when you decided to try and stop me, you had no idea that I was 'protected' by the State.

One other reason that made me laugh, was my wealth. You saw just a small part of what I was worth. I had been investing and dealing in property ever since I left the Navy in the late seventies. You had no idea what you were walking away from.

Finally, the other laugh I had at your expense, was the fact that after you played away with your American friend, as revealed by your conversation, a drunken one at that, I had been seeing other women right from the last week of March 2004 starting with Sarah. You had broken my trust that early in our relationship, so I felt free to ensure I had something to fall back on. For me, it was far easier than for you.

The last laugh was always mine LL. You lived and live in your small world. Mine is and always was far more expansive. I have to say you have missed out on a very good life these last nearly fifteen years but that was your foolish choice. Me, I've never looked back.

With that last remark, in the penultimate paragraph above, in mind, click through to my latest blogs as a reminder of how far ahead I was, and you didn't have a clue:

Well, Well ...

 For LL in the UK

Well it seems like everything else you have done you made the wrong choice LL. No continental or indeed even further afield vacations for you at present.

Instead I hear you visited one of my old stomping grounds in Dorset. I'm not knocking it - my children grew up there, in part and there is plenty to do. If you need any tips for another trip, drop me a line (ha, ha!)

Of course if you had stayed, you would be enjoying Florida with me, or California, Hawaii, New England, Grand Canyon, Yosemite - wherever you wished, but you knew better...or you thought you did. Your downfall of course was the fact that you couldn't keep your panties on. Part of the story of your life LL. You made your bed and you have had to lie in it, even to the extent that you decided a fat Scotsman was a better bet than a very rich Anglo-Scot - me. I know that you regretted your decision, but as I said you made you bed etc.

No, I wouldn't have left you high and dry. Your perception of me was way wide of the mark, but then maybe it is what you thought all men do. They don't - certainly not this one.

My sole purpose in posting these blogs is to continue to remind you of two things. Firstly, what you have missed out on in life through 'making all the wrong decisions'. Secondly, to demonstrate that I didn't need you and that if you thought you were being clever going behind my back, that you had met your match and then some. I was way ahead of your silly little games with other men.

I note that both of you are back to stuffing yourselves and inflicting damage on your livers - food and drink, of course. Not sure what it is about people that post photos of their meals. Most folk I know think they are idiots.

If the cap fits LL.....

On another note I have been busy travelling around the States over the last month or so on business and a lot of shall we say...pleasure. On that last note check out my writings at this link, the usual ones. References to you are buried in them:

Beyond The Shadow

Chapter One

I guess I am a Christian. I was brought up as a Christian and if I have a faith, that is it. For most of my thirty plus years I hadn't thought too deeply about it, but I knew all the Bible stories from Sunday school and church when I was a boy.

Having briefly been a cop in New York and now with the FBI, I know a lot about evil in it's manifested form on the streets. Until the day I came across the book, I hadn't really thought about evil as depicted in the Bible, or as an entity of itself. Just man's inhumanity to his fellow man and  more often to women. Violence, murder, abuse all of these had figured in my career.

I'm based in the New York office of the Bureau. The coffee in the office is awful so I frequently, when I'm working from my desk, go out to grab a decent cup. Coffee in hand I did what I normally do according to the weather. I go sit in the park a block or so away and take a break there. I found a bench sat down and sat back while my coffee cooled a little. It was a good day, sun shining and folk enjoying the good weather.

I leaned forward on the bench and started drinking my coffee. For some reason I looked down. There, beneath the bench, was a book. No ordinary one by the look of it either. It was leather bound with intricate patterns. I stared at it for a short while, then picked it up. Looking back now, I sorely wish I hadn't because of where it led me.

I started to look inside. The script was old, very old, of Gothic type in appearance and as I flicked gently through the pages I saw pictures, or rather drawings or etchings, of angels and what might best be described as depictions of demons and what I supposed was the Devil. I looked around, half expecting some aged professor to turn up and say he had absent-mindedly forgotten his book. No one was taking any interest.

I picked it up and decided I would hand it in at the PAB - Police Administration Building - to go to lost property. That was the intention, but it never happened. My cell phone rang. I was required immediately at the site of a stake-out we had been running in Queens. I picked my car up from the underground car park and headed to Queens. The book was thrown on the back seat. I would hand it in later.

I arrived in Queens parked the car up a few blocks from the stake out and walked the the rest. Two hours later I and Frank Carson were relieved. I walked back to my car and Frank walked to his. When I had seated myself in the car, I remembered the book. I turned around to get it from the back seat. It wasn't there, nor was it on the front seat.

______o_____

The car was untouched when I returned. I decided to look under the seats - nothing. It had gone. Just to make sure I got out of the car and down on my knees I searched the car floor thoroughly. Nothing, zilch, zero. I settled back in my car and decided that although something of a mystery I would forget and I drove home.

I arrived at my house, a bachelor pad  since my divorce, put the car in the garage and entered my home. I threw the keys on the kitchen counter, got myself a cold beer from the fridge, took my mail and went into the lounge to enjoy the beer and deal with the mail. That was when I saw it. The book. It was dead center on my coffee table and it was open, as if waiting for me.

I walked over to the table, my beer and the mail forgotten for a moment. I didn't touch it straight away, just stared down at the pages that were open. Until that day I was not given to any belief in the supernatural. I Looked a little closer at the Gothic style script on the pages. It looked old, medieval perhaps. The pages were some sort of parchment material. I didn't touch thee pages that were open. Something stopped me doing that. I had intended closing the book.

I started to read.  It was difficult at first, due to the script, but I soon got my eye in and read both pages in full What they said shocked me. Apart from the content, there at the bottom of the left hand page was my name - Michael. It was a book it seemed of angels and evil, from what little I had read.

Later further research and help would reveal that the book came over from England in the 16th century, but I was told it was far older than that. I sat there that evening wondering what to do with the book, whether to hand it in or not. I decided not to, at least not immediately.

I went back into the kitchen for my second and last beer. When I returned the book was closed. I left it untouched. I was still puzzled as to how it had disappeared from my car and re-appeared in my home. Had I had a memory lapse? Had I lost some time somewhere? Was I going crazy?

All these thoughts passed through my mind and then … it happened. The book opened by itself at what seemed to be an illustration. There was a movement in the air then right before my disbelieving eyes a figure appeared in the room standing well over six feet. I lay back on my couch in a state of fear mixed with extreme apprehension.

Then a calm settled over me that seemed to come from the apparition before. He, it was a 'he', spoke and what he said led me into a world I had never before encountered as an agent of the FBI.

Unbeknown to me at the time, far to the north in the State of Maine, something stirred in the Great North Woods.

Chapter Two

I fell asleep on the couch  that night and woke after midnight still in my suit with my holster sticking into my ribs. I had placed the gun where I always do in my bedside table. I shook my head free of fuzziness, undressed and went to bed. Had I dreamt everything that evening - the book, the figure taller than me by a foot and what he said?

I fell asleep. The weekend had come around and although I work some, this one was mine. I showered shaved dressed and decided to go out for breakfast as I always do weekends. Before doing so I considered what I had heard the night before. I knew that morning, it was no dream and very real. In the lounge the book was closed, but had been moved from the coffee table to the small desk I have in there. Had I done that? The answer was no. I hadn't touched the book from coming home the evening before, to waking that morning.

Then there was the matter of my name - Michael - appearing in the book in the same script as the  remainder. The figure or more precisely apparition had been a man without doubt, very tall. Ethereal almost, in a kind of cloak that hung from his shoulders all the way to the floor. I don't recall seeing any feet, but I do recall to fairly large protrusions either side of his head emanating from between his shoulders.

The evening before and what I had experienced, felt and witnessed, was becoming clearer. I decided to consult an old friend. His name was Shimon and he was a rabbi.

And...something stirred in Maine, far to the north.

Shimon guarded his speciality so much so that few were aware of what he knew. I called to arrange a meeting and after mentioning the book was told to come immediately. I arrived at Shimon's place in Brooklyn shortly after the call. Shimon greeted me with his usual 'Shalom aleichem' to which I responded in the Jewish way, 'Aleichem shalom'.

He almost grabbed the book from me once we were settled in his archaic office deep in bowels of his home. He opened it slowly noting I had put a marker in the page. Questions flowed,. Where did I get the book? What happened when you opened it? Did you see anything?

He seemed to know more than I did already, so I asked him why my name appeared in the book in that ancient script. He smiled at me. I asked him 'What?'

He replied that it wasn't my name in the book, but that of the Archangel Michael. I quickly followed up with what I think I saw and what I heard from the apparition.

Shimon simply replied, 'You have been chosen'.

A Few Alternative Thoughts

 For LL in the UK

Lounging by my pool the other day (the indoor one here in New Hampshire), I reflected on how you might have fitted into my life, or me into yours.

We were getting there at one point, I believe, but then the disparities arose. They were minor to start with. Your idea of fashion versus mine, my ambition versus yours, my imagination, versus yours. The fashion thing I could deal with. I just refused to wear clothes you suggested for me. I remember I humored you for a while, but went back to my own instincts. Difficult to change at our ages then.

When it came to our imaginations and ambitions there was quite a rift. Mine looked at the horizon, yours didn't get beyond the end of your nose, which is largely why you missed out on the life I offered

As the years roll by it is difficult for me to remember the good times with you. All I recall is what you did. There were good times but somehow they have been completely smothered in my mind, by how you acted. Immaturely.

I don't know how your lockdown has been but mine has been great.

I have my place by the ocean on Nantucket island and my home and the ranch here. I managed a stay in my home in Florida a few weeks back. I'm looking to get over to Italy this Fall if I can and at least I have my own jet to get me there. Here at the ranch there is plenty for me to do and acres and acres to roam without leaving my property. I think your son and grandson would love it...as long as they were aware of the black bears😉. Actually, they tend to head deeper into the forest when they see you rather anything else.

Now Oregon, which I will be heading to sometime, has mountain lions, bears, coyotes and wolves.

I'm told you still reside in that semi-detached place of yours LL. That makes me wonder why you haven't moved. I have always thought of you as impulsive and initially when I met you, something of a risk taker, but it seems not. Unlike me, you seem rooted in that street, which isn't somewhere I would wish to spend the rest of my days, nor at your man's place over the border in Fk. Both pretty small places crowded in among others.

It exercised my mind, briefly, the other day as to what may have happened if I had granted your wish and we had remained friends. Would you have dallied with me behind your man's back in the same way you did behind mine? I know that you greatly enjoyed sex with me, even though I can't say it was equally as good from my side of things.

Would you have realised the mistake you had made...or rather mistakes? That I don't know categorically, but I believe you know and would have known, even back then. After all, your 'famous' remark about always making the wrong decisions told me a lot about you and what you realised after you had acted. You know that what you did was impulsive and foolish, given what you could have enjoyed with me.

For my part I was without doubt or hesitation ready to settle down with you. I was totally committed to you until your March 2004 revelation. I would happily have spent my life with you and taken on your boys, as they were then, giving them a life they would never have otherwise. Not even from your man.

I fell for you from the outset and, if I am honest, a small part of me still feels very fond of you. It's a shame you did what you did and betrayed me, but the other side of that coin is that you released me. I couldn't trust you after what you told me in March 2004. That 'release' enabled me to have a good time, a very good time and eventually led me into the arms of my second wife. I was far wealthier than you imagined LL. I was also very careful in what I disclosed. Your 'advice' about not revealing to much to other women after we had parted, made me smile.

All these years have passed since last we were together. Sixteen in all. My life has been very good since then, despite my losing Ash to cancer, and it still is. I am extremely wealthy and don't have a worry in the world. I have Ash's family and my own, of course, nine grandchildren, four of my own and five via Brad and Tom, Ash's sons. Most of all I have my health and am still fit and firing on all cylinders....and I mean firing! Oh...and I'm fully vaccinated for Covid, courtesy of Pfizer and have been for several weeks.

I guess at your age heading for sixty eight you no doubt need oestrogen supplements to keep you in any sort of shape for his/your 'needs'. Health-wise you seem to have lost the plot over your weight, although I'm not surprised given the booze and food you, and him, consume. I doubt that your weight would have gained as much as it has, had you been with me.

To me your life is a series of disasters, with the possible exception of your current man, but life if you can call it that, with him seems pretty boring to me viewed from the life I lead.

Maybe I should be grateful. Grateful to you for revealing your true colors early enough for me to pursue a different course. Grateful that I didn't get dragged down by your working class attitudes. Grateful for spurring me into action elsewhere with that resulting in my meeting Ash. Most of all the best thing I did was to live here in the USA, where I already had friends and family.

You really knew so little about me LL...in all respects. I'm very glad that my decision not the reveal everything about me was the right one. I tend to make all the the right decisions and you, in your own words, make all the wrong ones.

Guardian Angels - (Working Title)

Draft

Chapter One

There was mist that morning and the grass was wet underfoot.

I stood there, just before the sun rose above the horizon, looking down at the words:

Helen Pearson
Born   3 -26 - 2000
Taken 4 - 20 -2018
Now in peace

I have been coming to her grave every morning for the past year, since she was ripped away from me. My sweet and beautiful daughter.

The reason I was there again that morning was that I'm an early riser and, since losing her, I haven't slept well either.

I looked up. A gentle breeze slipped across the graveyard causing the mist to swirl a little. A single crow landed on a nearby tree and cawed once. I reckoned the day was awakening from its night time slumber and I decided to go when two things happened. The crow cawed again and a shadow was cast over my daughter's grave, from behind me. A cloud I thought, but the sun wasn't up far enough and there were no clouds, just the mist close to the ground.

I turned around and...there was nothing and nobody there. I felt a slight chill in the air, where previously it had been gradually getting warm. Then that cold feeling was gone. I wondered if it was me or my imagination, but I thought not. When I turned back around the second thing happened and this really shook me. The mist was swirling again and a figure seemed to rise from it and float toward me. It was a woman, but I couldn't see her face.

As I stood there transfixed, the figure came ever closer, until it stopped about twenty feet away. I knew, even though I couldn't see her face, that it was Helen my daughter. I heard her voice inside my head - I am with you. I am guarding you. They will come, but she will come as well.

The shadow reappeared behind me. Then another strange thing happened. An eagle landed high on one of the pine tress. The crow made off and the shadow was gone. I shook my head trying to make some sense of what had happened. was it latent grief, my imaginings or …. something else, something more

~~~~~~
My name is Adam. Until a year ago, I was a detective with the NYPD. I'm not given to believing in the unreal or the supernatural. However, that morning's experience had shaken me. I  had resigned from the force and moved up her to Maine after the sole member of my family remaining, Helen, had been snatched from me by an evil man. I do mean evil, truly evil.
My wife and father had died three years prior to Helen and I had inherited dad's old home. I began to make my way back there when a woman walked up to me in the parking lot of the cemetery. She said she was Anna and that my daughter had just spoken of her....
That really shook me and the fact this was a beautiful woman standing right there on this damp misty morning. I was so shaken I was speechless for a few moments. Then Anna insisted that I come with her as she had much to tell me. I nodded my acquiescence, I'm not sure why, and followed her back to the parking lot and then beyond across the street and into St Joseph's, the church near the cemetery.
' I have a story to tell you that you will not believe at first, but what I say is of the utmost importance to you and your future', she said as we sat in the quiet of the church. ' You are a very special person Adam and I know you don't realise it...yet. Now, listen carefully to what I have to tell you. Do not interrupt or ask questions until I have finished'.
She went on to tell me what I found almost unbelievable and forms the basis of the tale I will now relate....
